Jimmy Smith and son go Coho fishing on Lake Michigan.
His ex-wife calls the Police.
Jimmy notified FPP that he and his son Billy were going fishing on Saturday. Upon receipt of his itinerary, our computer informed him of discounts at a bait & tackle shop and a boat parts chandlery store which were in the region of his fishing destination. It also E-mailed his profile and itinerary to his 3 designees. One of these designees was his ex-wife Sue, where he was to pick up his son.
Jimmy picked up Billy Saturday at 4:00 a.m. He informed his ex-wife that they would be back 9:00 p.m. the same day. He also told her a float plan was filed and was forwarded to her via the Internet. Just in case, he printed a copy of the Float Plan and left it with her.
At 9:00 p.m. they had not returned. At midnight Sue called the police in Michigan City, IN. Note: Zarcor computer will automatically activate an inquiry after 24 hours but in this case, there was no reason to wait. The police asked Sue to forward the Float Plan to them. The Float Plan included a lot of information, but most important was the vehicle and boat trailer license plate numbers, the boat brand, its size and colors, and what communications devices were on board, (which was a cell phone).
Within 20 minutes the police located the trailer and vehicle at one of the city ramps. They then notified the USCG, who issued a notice to all boaters of the missing boat. Jimmy and Billy were found safe and sound at daybreak the next morning. Their motor had quit about 1 mile out, and the battery on their cell phone was low. Because a storm was building, they were glad they had filed a Float Plan and thankful to be rescued.
